Part 135 non-emergency operations
8 Star Aviation has several contracts for aeromedical
services that provide opportunities for low-time pilots to
gain experience before venturing out into the wilds.
None of these will have mission postings on the Flight Dispatch board, but you must post a load manifest prior to departure.
1. Cordova (PACV) - Gulkana (PAGK): Medical support to local clinics. Lay over for two hours in each location. Crew: Pilot and copilot. Passengers: 1 doctor, flies on all legs. Cargo: (medical supplies) 100 pounds for Cordova, 100 pounds for Gulkana.
2. Aniak (PANI) - Port Heiden (PAPH): "Flying Doctor" mission. Arrive PANI not later than 0900, and lay over at least three hours in each location (you'll need it, since the locals will be lined up to see the doctor). Crew: Pilot and copilot. Passengers: 1 doctor, 1 nurse, both fly all legs. Cargo: none. A stop in Anchorage for refueling is authorized.
3. Unalakleet (PAUN) - Galena (PAGA): Medical support to local clinics. Lay over for two hours in each location. Crew: Pilot and copilot. Passengers: 1 doctor, 1 nurse. Cargo: (medical supplies) 100 pounds for Unalakleet, 150 pounds for Galena. Refuel in Galena.
Flights may originate at any of the three bases, but must stop in Juneau to pick up any passengers and cargo for the flight, returning through Juneau to drop off the passengers. With passengers and/or cargo aboard, flights are governed by FAR Part 135. Additional legs to and from Juneau without passengers and/or cargo are governed by FAR Part 91.
